For many children, this is their first experience entering the pool without a parent, so instruction focuses on building comfort, confidence, and water familiarity.</span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal;"><b><span times="" new="" roman",="" serif;"=""></span><span times="" new="" roman",="" serif;"="">Skills Taught</span></b></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal;"><span times="" new="" roman",="" serif;"="">Instruction progresses at each child’s pace and may include:</span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal;"></p><ul><li><span times="" new="" roman",="" serif;"="">Getting face and hair wet</span></li><li><span times="" new="" roman",="" serif;"="">Front and back floats</span></li><li><span times="" new="" roman",="" serif;"=""></span><span times="" new="" roman",="" serif;"="">Kicking and scooping</span></li><li><span times="" new="" roman",="" serif;"="">Jumping in from the pool edge</span></li><li><span times="" new="" roman",="" serif;"=""></span><span times="" new="" roman",="" serif;"="">Retrieving underwater objects</span></li></ul>The final five minutes of each class are dedicated to supervised games and fun time.<p></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal;"><span times="" new="" roman",="" serif;"=""><b>Important Notes</b></span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal;"></p><ul><li><span times="" new="" roman",="" serif;"=""><b>Parent Observation:</b> Parents and caregivers may observe from the pool deck. This “without parent” format helps reduce distractions and allows instructors to maintain focus for a productive learning environment. Families wishing to be in the water with their child should consider our Water Babies program.</span></li><li><span times="" new="" roman",="" serif;"=""></span><span times="" new="" roman",="" serif;"=""><b>Instructor Information: </b>Most instructors are high school or college students who enjoy working with children. Many are swimmers or pursuing careers in education or early childhood development. Instructor requests cannot be accommodated for group lessons.</span></li><li><span times="" new="" roman",="" serif;"=""><b>Goggles Policy:</b> Goggles are not recommended for Junior Swim School. Opening eyes underwater is an important skill at this level.</span></li></ul><span times="" new="" roman",="" serif;"=""><b>Safety & Participation Expectations</b></span><p></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal;"><span times="" new="" roman",="" serif;"="">To participate in group lessons, children must be able to:</span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal;"></p><ul><li><span times="" new="" roman",="" serif;"="">Stay with their group</span></li><li><span times="" new="" roman",="" serif;"=""></span><span times="" new="" roman",="" serif;"="">Follow directions from aquatic staff</span></li><li><span times="" new="" roman",="" serif;"="">Remain safely above water while waiting their turn (sitting on the ledge, standing on in-water risers, or staying in designated shallow areas)<br></span></li></ul>Children who are unable to meet these expectations, require excessive one-on-one attention, or disrupt group safety may be removed from the class and issued a prorated refund.
