Learn to play or improve your tennis game with the Park District's experienced staff. Students should dress in comfortable clothing, wear tennis shoes and provide their own racquet. Players are grouped by ability. Classes utilize the ABCs - agility, balance and coordination - along with instruction on basic tennis strokes. Orange Ball class will use a 60' tennis court and special orange tennis balls. Green Ball classes will use the Green Ball on a regular court. Yellow Ball classes use a standard tennis ball on a regular court. Beginners have never played tennis or have played a limited amount, but not on a regular basis. Class emphasizes introduction of forehand, backhand, serve, shot placement, positioning, scoring and rules. Advanced Beginners have knowledge of scoring and rules and may have had some lessons, but lack on-court experience. They can keep a ball in play with others of similar ability. Class emphasizes improvement of basic strokes and works on positioning, shot placement, footwork and serve consistency. Intermediates are those who can place shots with moderate success and sustain a rally at a slow pace. They are not yet comfortable with all strokes and lack consistency in serving. In case of rain, up to two makeups will be held at the completion of the session. (ba)
