Sulzer Regional
Longtime Chicago musicians Eve Monzingo and George Lawler explore a wide range of Jewish American music, from klezmer traditions to jazz standards, Yiddish folk songs, Broadway hits, and swing classics. Eve Monzingo, with 30 years in the Chicago Klezmer Ensemble, plays two key instruments of Jewish music: the tsimbl (Yiddish for hammered dulcimer), with its sparkling sound that revives ancient melodies; and the clarinet, central to both klezmer and jazz, delivering expressive Eastern modes or the syncopated jazz lines of Benny Goodman and the Gershwins. Together with George Lawler on guitar and a unique percussion setup, they perform well-known classics, lesser-known pieces, and share stories about the music’s origins and history.
