. The Springfield Park District’s SKATING 2 HOCKEY program emphasizes the fundamentals of ice skating for first-time hockey players. Skaters will learn skills such as Getting up from Falling, Bending and Standing, Agility, Stopping, Skating Backwards, etc. It’s important for these players to be comfortable on the ice and have the basic skating skills to enter our Learn to Play Hockey Program. Skating is a fundamental aspect of playing Hockey. If you cannot skate well, you will not be able to play hockey! Curriculum: ROAD TO HOCKEY Skating 2 Hockey is for beginners, not old enough for Basic 1 class and interested in Ice Hockey. Ages 3-5 Basic 1 is for Beginners ages 6+ who are new to skating. Learn to Play is for players who have passed Basic 1 class or skating to hockey.
