Joliet, IL
You must attend all in-person sessions to pass. There is a pre-requisite swim test that must be passed to continue on in the class. This will be done at the start of the first session, and includes a 150 yard continuous swim followed immediately by a two minute tread in deep water without using hands, and then one more 50 yard swim. There is also a timed deep water object retrieval event. Participants who can not pass this swim test will not be allowed to continue with the class and will be refunded all but $50 of the registration fee. If you would like to schedule a prerequisite swim test before the first day of class, please contact Molly Hoover at mhoover@jolietpark.org to schedule the test. This can be before or after signing up for the class. If you try the pre-requisite swim test before the first day of class and do not pass, you will be fully refunded. Upon successful completion of the class, participants will receive an American Red Cross Lifeguarding with CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and First Aid certification, valid for 2 years. Participants must attend all sessions of the course and pass a written exam as well as the water rescue skills to be eligible for certification.
