You must attend all in-person sessions to pass. Participants will begin with a prerequisite swim test at the start of the first session. The prerequisite swim test includes a 150 yard continuous swim followed immediately by a two minute tread in deep water without using hands, and then 1 more 50 yard swim. There is also a timed deep water object retrieval event. Participants who can not pass this swim test will not be allowed to continue with the class and will be refunded. If you would like to schedule a prerequisite swim test BEFORE signing up, please contact Molly Hoover at mhoover@jolietpark.org to schedule the test. Upon successful completion of the class, participants will receive an American Red Cross Lifeguarding with CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and First Aid certification, valid for 2 years. Participants must attend all sessions of the course and pass a written exam as well as the water rescue skills to be eligible for certification.
