Bolingbrook Park District preschool programs, offered for children ages 2 1/2 to 5 years of age, believes in "Learning through Play". Play is the most important aspect of a child's life. It is their work; where they learn to interact, share and cooperate. Through play, a child is not only building a strong foundation for intellectual development, but is also learning how to deal with emotions, decision making and problem solving. Carefully supervised free play is vital and is designed to be safe and age appropriate. Preschool Curriculum concepts for the school year include the following areas; Pre-Writing/Writing, Interest, Math/Science, Early Literacy, Gross Motor, Music and Art Creation. The teacher's role is vital throughout the day as a co-discoverer (not merely dispenser) of knowledge and facilitator (not merely manager) of play. Preschoolers in these programs are preparing for success in future learning. 4 Year Old Program In this program, 4 year olds strengthen relationships with friends and teachers and begin to understand responsibility as they become more self-sufficient. The curriculum focuses on emerging literacy, math, science, creative art and fine motor skills to prepare children for Kindergarten. The 4 days a week program is designed for children who are ready for additional time in the classroom. The 4th day includes additional in-depth exposure to pre-literacy, math, self-expression skills and class projects. These classes run 2 or 3 or 4 days per week.
