Central Park West
Join author and broadcaster Jimmy Jellinek for a lively, nostalgic, and deeply Chicago celebration of the humble hot dog. In this entertaining 45-minute talk, Jellinek traces the journey of the Chicago dog from Maxwell Street pushcarts and Depression-era nickel lunches to the neon-lit suburban stands where first dates were made and Little League victories were celebrated. Along the way, he explores the immigrant bakers who gave us the poppy-seed bun, the rise of the char dog and cheddar fries, and the unwritten rules that made "no ketchup" a civic badge of honor. More than a meal, the Chicago hot dog is a story about neighborhood, memory, and the small places that helped shape generations of Chicagoans. Come hungry for history - and maybe a little mustard, because of course we will be serving hot dogs! Vegetarian hot dogs will be available.
