June 21 is Make Music Day, an international celebration of free music in unexpected places. We welcome you to enjoy performances throughout the day. Our lineup includes: DJ Purple (The Duke of House): House Music at 1 p.m.Choroscope: Brazilian Choro at 2 p.m. Paul Conley and Friends: Folk and Pop at 3 p.m.NMO and Friends: Classical String Quintet at 4 p.m. If the weather is good, performances will be in front of the library. If not, we will be inside our community room or lobby. For all ages. DJ Purple (The Duke of House) is the reason we have the amazing Frankie Knuckles mural created by Max Sansing in our parking lot. DJ Purple's information about Gherkin Records being located across the street jumpstarted a whole intersection of Buena Park history. Come enjoy his smooth House groove. Photo source: Reggie Davenport Founded by David Chelimsky and John Beard in 2016, Choroscope performs Brazilian choro, a primarily instrumental form that started on the streets of Rio de Janeiro in the late 1800s. Today our lineup includes Jim Barbick on the flute, Geraldo de Oliveira on percussion, John Beard on the 7-string guitar and David Chelimsky on cavaquinho. With the exception of the flute, these are all uniquely Brazilian instruments. Paul Conley and Friends is a vocal folk group consisting of a dozen members who will let you join in on the fun as you sing along.
