North Park Village Nature Ctr
The Naturalist in Training (NIT) program combines service to the park with fun activities for teens. NIT (Teen Nature Camp) is a mentorship program designed for 17-year-olds that equips them with the tools needed to become a Summer Camp Counselor at a Chicago Park District Nature Center in the future. The program is dedicated to building leadership and team-building skills, as well as equipping participants with the tools needed to become future leaders of youth development. The Teen Nature Camp NIT is specifically designed for one teen to assist with Teen Nature Camp after assisting with the first two weeks of Eco Explorers. This teen can expect to learn the basics of working with youth and teens in an outdoor setting, develop strong communication skills, and assist with programmatic elements. Teen Nature Camp NIT applicants should be comfortable in the outdoors, familiar with mountain biking, paddling, and rock climbing (or a willingness to try), and have some experience working with youth. A new addition this year: upon completion of the program, this NIT participant will receive a $200 stipend. Of note, the stipend amount is subject to change if expectations are not met. If interested in applying for this position, please ensure you are available for the session time frame (June 22- July 31, 2026). Additionally, you must pick up an application at the Nature Center and briefly chat with staff. The Nature Center is open every day from 9 am- 4 pm and applications are due May 9th. One NIT (Teen Nature Camp) position will be available for Summer 2026. For questions, please call the Nature Center at 312-744-5472 or email NPV.NatureCenter@ChicagoParkDistrict.com
