Basic 1-6 Ages 6+ The Basic Skills curriculum begins by building strong foundational skating technique. Basic 1 introduces new skaters to posture, balance, forward movement, simple turns, and how to fall and get up safely. Basic 2 expands on these fundamentals with backward skating, improved glides, beginning stops, and early edge work. Basic 3, skaters refine their coordination through forward stroking, backward one-foot glides, forward slaloms, and introductory turning technique, helping them gain confidence and independence on the ice. Basic 4 focuses on stronger edges, forward crossovers, backward edges, and beginning three-turns. Basic 5 builds power and agility through backward crossovers, hockey stops, advanced stroking, and more refined turning skills. Basic 6 completes the foundational pathway with three-turns in both directions, backward two-foot turns, T-stops, spirals, and introductory jumps—preparing skaters for the Pre-Free Skate level and more advanced figure skating development.
